We are introducing order restrictions for private customers step by step. The aim is to prevent misuse of our products and to make sure an order belongs to the person who holds the account.
The measures will arrive one after the other. First the fraud score with identity verification, then a limit on how much you can order. We will publish exact quantity limits and start dates when each step takes effect.
Fraud score
The fraud score checks whether an order fits the account. It collects signals that do not block an order on their own, but together point to a higher risk.
The check looks at things such as:
- Connection: access through Tor, a VPN, a proxy, or a data-center address.
- Countries: the country of the connection does not match the billing or shipping country, or billing and shipping are in different countries.
- Name: the name on the account does not match the name on the invoice or the delivery.
- Address: the billing and shipping addresses do not line up.
These signals add up to a score and stay on the account. If the score reaches a warning, we pause the order. The next step is an identity check through Stripe Identity. That confirms the person placing the order is our customer.
Quantity limits
In the next step we will limit how much you can order as a private customer. We will publish the exact limits before they apply.
If you regularly need larger amounts, our wholesale offers are the right place. They are not limited to companies. Private customers can use them as well when larger amounts are needed on a regular basis.
What this means for you
- Your order looks consistent: Checkout stays the same for now.
- The fraud score reaches a warning: The order continues only after your identity has been checked through Stripe Identity.
- You regularly need larger amounts: Have a look at the wholesale offers.
- You have questions: Create a support ticket.
Why we are doing this
Our products are intended solely for scientific, analytical, and laboratory research. The restrictions are there to keep accounts and larger quantities from being used for other purposes.
