We have revised and simplified the pricing structure at Remicals.de. Effective immediately, we no longer charge our customers additional payment fees for payment methods such as Klarna, PayPal and comparable payment providers.
Previously, certain payment methods included a fee corresponding to the costs charged to us by the respective payment service provider for processing the transaction. Our intention was never to generate additional revenue from payment fees, but simply to pass on the actual costs associated with the selected payment method.
Why We Changed the System
In practice, however, this model proved unnecessarily complex and economically inefficient for us. Many payment providers calculate their fees using a combination of a fixed transaction charge and a percentage of the total transaction value.
This created a simple but significant effect: once the payment fee was added to the original order value, the total transaction amount increased as well. The payment provider's percentage-based processing fee was then calculated on this higher amount. As a result, even though we only intended to pass on the original processing costs, part of the actual fee regularly remained with us.
In other words, despite charging a separate payment fee, we still absorbed part of the payment processing costs ourselves.
2.5% Instead of Different Payment Fees
We therefore reviewed our average payment processing costs and decided to introduce a simpler and more transparent pricing model.
Our product prices have been increased uniformly by 2.5%. This figure approximately reflects the average processing costs we incur across the different payment methods available in our shop.
In return, additional payment fees at checkout have been reduced to €0.
What Does This Mean for You?
The most important change is straightforward: the displayed product price now already includes the average cost of payment processing. No additional payment processing fee will therefore be added at checkout for the available payment methods.
This also eliminates the previous price differences caused by payment methods with varying transaction costs. The new model makes our calculations more predictable while providing customers with a cleaner and more straightforward checkout experience.
The adjustment has deliberately been implemented as a unified model: instead of displaying different fees depending on the selected payment provider, the average cost of payment processing is now distributed across our overall product pricing.
In short: product prices +2.5%, additional payment fees €0.
We believe this model provides a more transparent, straightforward and sustainable approach than separately charging individual payment processing fees.
